The Cry for Fathers…

All over the world there is a cry for fathers…

In Great Britain there is an admission even in the government party, the Conservatives, that the nation´s problems largely have to do with the absence of fathers. Biological, family daddys.

But just as much there is a cry for spiritual fathers. Father figures.

Once in a while Aina & I meet a couple of small girls who don´t have a daddy. Every time they meet me, they will ask: “Are you our daddy?” It pains me that small children should grow up in that way.

In charismatic christendom there is also a cry for fathers. I have heard it for many years among zealous, young people in Youth With A Mission, the prayer movement, trendy movements like Hillsong… In country after country. The list is long.

This fits in with the last words of the Old Testament, which constitute the transition to the New Testament. Monumental words: “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet Before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. And he will turn The hearts of the fathers to the children, And the hearts of the children to their fathers, Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse” (Malachi 4:5-6). There are serious consequences when fathers are lacking.

How then shall there be a coming together of fathers and children?

Firstly by the acknowledgement of the cry, the longing. The prophets will cry it out, as the prophet Elijah.

Secondly, the fathers are developed by the Lord. The callings and anointings aren´t enough. It took decades before Paul stood forth as the apostle & father figure that the Lord had anointed him for from mother´s womb.

Thirdly, the “children” are being prepared. We live in a rebellious generation. Children seek the easy way, that which gives short-sighted benefits. And as they discover their fathers, they will chop at them and let out their rebellion. I did that too 🙂 A true father accepts being attacked like that. After a while the “children” mature, and the criticism is replaced by respect.

Lord, turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, And the hearts of the children to their fathers, so You will not come and strike the earth with a curse!
